Watch this video and then read the comments. The comments are.... interesting. They are reminiscent of what your might read on 4chan. It seems that young men (particularly young 'white' men) are incredibly fed up.
I’ll join the Army. I may be 54 years old man but I identify as a 20 year old healthy lesbian and my pronouns are whatever I feel they are at the moment.
It seems it's now now okay to change the recruitment narrative from being one of woke racial inclusivity and the recruitment of alphabet people to one of there might be a war, so we now need more non inclusive potential cannon fodder in relation to straight white people again.
I wonder if inclusivity and the woke narrative still applies to opportunities for promotion or is that going to be unchanged in the name of the woke agenda, along with actual front line service in relation to certain protected inclusive groups. etc.
Please don't think the youtube comments are representative of white males in general. This ad is being circulated / shared in certain online spaces, and the comments reflect those online communities. When you are familiar with those groups you can recognize their lingo and imagery, which is all over the comments. There are specific reasons this particular crowd has been herded away from military service, just as there are reasons why some portions of the population are being brainwashed to believe the U.S. military is "woke" and the FBI is some sort of evil leftist organization.
When you read the comments under that youtube video, what you're seeing is the groupthink of a specific "very-online" community. Within their insular bubble, a video is shared around and they all comment the same thing to confirm they are all thinking the same way, because of course we can't have independent thought in these little cult-gangs.

Nobody reads the comment section on YouTube. It's always 4chan. There's a few, very few, small channels that have a sense of community. The Army propaganda channel is not one of those.

Keep coping. Far more young men than you think agree with or sympathize with these comments.

"Coping" / "cope" is an example of the lingo I was referencing, especially the way you used it. Trust me I am the most pessimistic person you could ever meet so I don't underestimate the number of "these people." What you need to realize is there is a reason they're being herded this way. Be curious about that reason.
I hope young men are realizing that we never accomplish anything in the "wars" like Viet Nam and Afghanistan. We just use young men as cannon fodder. I went to Vietnam and thought that we had a purpose for going there and we did, It made some rich old men richer. That is all we accomplished.

Apart from the online-people in that comment section, I do think our society has become more anti war over time. But I also think number of humans per military is becoming less relevant. If wars become all about robots, drones, cyber attacks, etc. it doesn't matter as much how many humans are enlisted.
A big reason enlistment is down in the u.s. right now is the incredibly strong job market.
