Democrats sometimes are pro union. Joe Biden actual was anti auto corporation when he walked the picket lines with the UAW. Okay, he shuffled, for five minutes. But the po8nt is democrats like unions.

But today’s unions are just supporting weak labor. The Costco workers in Virginia agreed to unionize because they wanted easier attendance requirements. https://wtop.com/business-finance/20...ot-you-its-us/

How can America win with wanting to join unions that support “less labor”? Wouldn’t family owned companies and small towns be better served by hard work and dedicated workers?

Can’t believe Biden falls for these tricks.

What's the problem here? We live in the age of automation and record productivity and technological advancement. They dont want to work more, they want to work less and make a larger portion of that productivity rather than smaller.

FWIW, I've seen strict attendance systems arbitrarily take away promotions from deserving people and give them to incompetent dingbats with excellent attendance. You know, tge ones that just show up and not much else.

Not just attendance…

Specially, the workers said their hope in becoming Teamsters is to have a voice asking for higher wages, pension contributions, bonuses and more flexible attendance policy, among other workplace improvements.
I don’t see a problem here.

My argument for anions is the same as the one for Capitalism. It’s may not be the greatest system ever but it’s the best one so far.

How do employees put pressure on a corporation to change working conditions without a Union? I have no clue because in the USA it seems most jobs without a Union have worse conditions and wages compared to Union jobs.

High turnover and quitting don’t seem affective and just put more stress on the workers that remain.
Complaining about it without a Union just gets you fired
Moving to a new job without a Union just repeats the cycle.
Wages have fallen as Union memberships have fallen which shows a clear correlation.
Low unemployment numbers do not have the same wage lifting effect that Unions have, so the “market” is not doing much to help alone.

I am not saying Unions are the best, I just don’t see evidence that anything else works for the American worker as well as Union activity.

I was surprised this happened at a Costco. I've always heard good things about Costco & you do see lot of long term employees there which normally is a sign that it's a happy work force.

I've always said that Unions served an important purpose decades ago. When you had no media to support you & companies could easily take advantage of you. But now days if a company treats their employees really bad the media gets wind of it & they pay the consequences. This whole "better wages" thing is a joke. Most costco employees are cashiers or stockers. Both jobs that really don't carry a lot of high skill involved in them. What's going to happen when you got a long term employee making 70k a year as a cashier? Chances are you'll see them try and get that employee fired now because it just doesn't make sense. Unions are all about getting greedy at the present day & forgetting how those actions can cause a lot of problems down the road. This whole pension thing is a joke. Won't happen when most of these people are ready to retire. Either they'll go bankrupt & everybody loses or they'll hardly get anything.

The primary purpose of unions today is to provide job security to the unskilled and low-skilled. The government employee unions are a perfect example of this.

And if unions are so critical, how come they barely exist in the private sector these days? Any company that treats their skilled workers poorly will have a shortage of skilled workers. Word gets out and no one applies for a job. They change or they go out of business.

I made that exact point above. We have not just the MSM now days but social media. The fire storm of going viral within hours of something bad happening at a job is not something most corporations want.

The unions do not want to give way to automation and AI

They don't want any job loss.
Our ports are like dinosaurs compared to other ports around the world because of the unions.

The UAW just won against AI and automation.

In the long run...America will fall way behind

unions, just like socialism is about mediocracy.

look at the history, a raise for everyone... not pay for performance, its pay just for being a body that is there.

with unions, just like socialism, the worst mechanic in town, will be paid the same as the best mechanic in town... so why strive for success, when the union will keep everyone mediocratic-ally equal.
