At least there is still an inspiring statue of Jackie Robinson in Jersey City NJ, near the Journal Square PATH train station. Before playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers, he had a short stint with a minor league team in Jersey City.

They'll rebuild the statue, already collected over 180k.

The more I think of this it smells of the same crooks that steal the copper etc. out of cemeteries. Story got so much attention they couldn't melt it so they cut it up and burned it destroying any chance of DNA or fingerprints left on it.
