They come out with inflated numbers, so as not to upset markets; then simply revise them down at a later date.
It seems they've re-defined soft landing into no landing.

Default Foods you cant afford

Think about that twice. Food you can no longer afford. This is ok?

Hamburger was $3.00 a lb. Today it is $6.00. So it may look like the economy is booming, but inflation is making that moot.
And then they claim prices were lower than they actually were, and higher than they are today. Price of ground beef was $4.60 (not $3.00) in 2021 and its $5.21 today (not $6.00). Last time ground beef was $3.00 was in 2011

Presidents do not set the price of gas.

What Presidents do do is set foreign policy which can greatly influence the price of gas.

When gas is over $4 a gallon then that's a big problem for the economy. Clearly gas prices affect the low income workers the most, who must commute and they usually drive the shi**est cars.

Funny how business can pass on fuel related costs, but the consumer must suck it up. Somehow everyone is good with that.... and that makes no sense to me.

Despite the talk of food inflation, I just bought our usual 3 lb. package of American Wagyu ground beef at Costco Saturday, and it was $16. I remember when we first discovered it well before Covid it was $15, that's $5/lb. Meanwhile, their regular 88% lean and 12% fat ground beef is just $3.49/lb. you just have to buy about 6-7 lbs. and freeze it in portions. That same grind is $6.49/lb. at Safeway.

Costco also has the Japanese ground Wagyu at $129.99 for 4 lb. package, and people buy it.

That's the disconnect. Yes, the stock market is booming, and yes wages are up. Yet, many people are still struggling.

Even the crappiest cut of beef (stew meat) is pretty pricey..$7/lb at Walmart
Used to be about $5/lb and change (USDA database reports-Retail Beef-stew meat) 1/3/2020 report

Low unemployment, great home value, no mass layoffs, and gas prices going down.
You have to understand how unemployment numbers are determined, and it isn't how you think:

https://www.bls.gov/opub/hom/cps/design.htm

"Data on unemployment are collected every month in the Current Population Survey (CPS), a survey of about 60,000 households, conducted by the Census and the BLS every month, which includes roughly 105,000 people ages 16 and older. The questions about unemployment refer to what people were doing during the week that includes the 12th of the month, known as the “reference week”—so the survey to be released on Friday, March 4, 2021 will cover the week of February 8, 2021. The CPS is referred to as the household survey, to distinguish it from the establishment survey, which counts the number of people on employer payrolls. (The latest tally of payrolls showed that as of January 2021, we have recovered 9.9 million of the 22.4 million jobs lost since the beginning of 2020.)"

https://www.statista.com/statistics/...d%20and%20over.

" In December 2023, the inactive labor force amounted to about 101.33 million people in the United States. Labor force measures are based on the civilian non-institutional population 16 years old and over. Excluded are persons under 16 years of age, all persons confined to institutions such as nursing homes and prisons, and persons on active duty in the Armed Forces. The labor force is made up of the employed and the unemployed. The remainder — those who have no job and are not looking for one — are counted as "not in the labor force." Many who are not in the labor force are going to school or are retired. Family responsibilities keep others out of the labor force."

A lot of people did not return to work after COVID, as many like getting a monthly check without working.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/homes-f...ousing-prices/

"Homes "unaffordable" in 99% of nation for average American"

https://news.crunchbase.com/startups/tech-layoffs/

"More than 191,000 workers at U.S.-based tech companies were laid off in mass job cuts in 2023, according to our tally, and the cuts continue into 2024. Follow along here with our comprehensive tech layoffs tracker, updated weekly, of U.S. tech employers cutting jobs — whether that's at companies as large as Google and Microsoft, or smaller startups."

https://www.businessinsider.com/layo...king-cuts-2024

"Companies like Amazon, BlackRock, Nike, Intel, and Citigroup have announced plans for cuts this year."

And gas prices just increased here this week, despite predictions for 2024 that there would be a decrease.

Grocery store prices continue to increase with downsizing of the package sizes. Many prices since Biden took office are 50% higher.

That is local to me. It will never go back down to $6.99.

Price changes are not all the same all over the country at all supermarkets.
Yes, people are either lying, or are so deep into the leftist cult, that they cannot even acknowledge reality if it disagrees with their cult's message.

Of course we know the price of beef in stores has gone up 200% since Jan 2021, because we freaking shop for food each week.
