To give you an idea of how basic these tests are, follow the link (hopefully it works!)

What would be the reason to not give a basic test such as this to rule out dementia for someone who is going to potentially be president of this country?

If diagnosed with dementia, is there any reason to ignore the fact and let a candidate go through with the campaign process?

I opined elsewhere I think everyone over a certain age (like 68) in congress, and in the judicial branch at the appellate level and up right through SCOTUS, and in the executive branch, along with any candidate running for president or VP over the designated age, should take a cognitive test. Some people show signs of early cognitive decline. Often by age 75, signs start to show.

I think they need to retire at 66 or that election year once turn 66. That’s it.

We already do that for our elected officials. Every two or four or six years, usually in early November.

Should be administered to anyone wanting to hold a public office. Retesting should be a requirement, as well.

Both Trump and Biden should do it. I would say instead of a debate. Just have them both tested by an expert on national TV. What are they hiding?

If Democrat voters are stupid enough to vote for Biden, do you really think a test is going to stop them? His dementia was obvious and they still voted for him. We don't need a test; we need voters with brains.

That would be fantastic if they were to do that. Neither candidate and neither party should fear that. It's about being absolutely transparent with "we the people".
These cretins are employed by us and we should know their competence or lack thereof.

I'm 65. I wouldn't trust anybody over 60 to walk my dog, and i don't even have a dog.

Amen. 66 1/2 is my full retirement age for Social Security. 65 is the typical retirement age in the US. Now if someone wants to work at Walmart when they’re 75, fine; how much damage can they do? But the most important jobs in our country we allow people to keep working at indefinitely. It’s insane!
