Do have some info that wasn’t in the story?
The process for monies owed on repairs or upgrades is via a title lien, not squatting. Any decent contractor or even handyman would have something in writing.
The homeowner broke the law, she couldnt change the locks until the tenant fails to produce a lease. How is this suppose to play out, a homeowner can just change the locks on you? can a car company change the locks on your leased car? You have 72 hours to produce a lease agreement or you get kicked out, you have 14 of non payment to begin eviction, all the lady had to do was wait out the period, listen it sucks that someone who isnt supposed to be in your house is there but otherwise it means if the landlord wanted to kick you out for no reason he could, and if you can find a copy of your lease in what 2? hours you should get kicked out. This is just very myopic and does not take into account all the abuses that landlords routinely do, these protections exist for a reason this wasnt the starting point
You are using incorrect terminology here. It wasn't a tenant, it was a squatter who had illegally invaded a home. And it wasn't a landlord, it was a homeowner who should have the right to not have someone illegally invade her home.
the homeowner should recruit her neighbors, friends, and sympathizers to this injustice to stand outside the stolen home with bullhorns, whistles, etc. and make loud noise 24 hours a day.

You didn't think the far-left were just after Trump tower did you?, how many are aghast about these squatters yet at the same time are cheering that the far-left manipulate the law to bring down Trump? Newsflash the far-left are after all private property including yours, because they are Marxists who view it as oppressed vs oppressor and "social justice and equity", and according to them the U.S is "stolen colonized land" therefor you have no private property rights.
To add insult to injury this homeowner will still have to pay property tax and insurance and be responsible for repairing the damage left behind once these squatters finally leave.
Oh you say you will fight this in court?. How when the prosecutor, judge and jury are all far-left? Oh you are going to use a 2nd amendment right to protect your property?, how when the far-left control the courts and government and will arrest you or worse instead?
It is only a matter of time that illegal immigrants catch on to the fact they can take over a house manipulating these squatter laws, and some of the far-left have already stated they believe that when you pass your property should go to the state which makes it government owned because it's not fair that your kids should inherit
I'm still not clear where the line is between squatter and intruder. The 30 days matters in civil court. What if the squatter comes in when you're sleeping and brings a chair and cooler. And says "CLAIMED".
Even if a squatter has been living for 30 days inside a house when the home owners were away, all that should happen is they are arrested on 30 counts of trespassing.
New york City insanity:
Police:"Oh, so you have really, really, really been trespassing, by staying in a stranger's home for a month? Well, guess the home is yours now."
the homeowner should recruit her neighbors, friends, and sympathizers to this injustice to stand outside the stolen home with bullhorns, whistles, etc. and make loud noise 24 hours a day.

The squatter will just sell the house, then move on to the next poor unfortunate person's home.
I hope they steal every home from every stupid Democrat who vote for politicians who pass laws like these.
