Is Massapequa a part of New York City? I thought it was an independent suburban town.
If that's the case, why would Mayor Adams or the NYC city council have any official duty there? I suppose Adams having been a policeman himself would account for him speaking, but the city council would have no reason to be there other than as individuals.

Many Americans seem to be okay with this since they continue to vote (D). Not sure if they will ever learn. It's kinda like the frog placed in boiling water....
When a person votes Democrat they are directly supporting this with that vote.
No matter how much some Ds will deny this their actions say otherwise.
The Dems have supported demonizing cops, defunding police, and just revolving door all criminals so yeah, all Dems have blood on their hands as far as I'm concerned.
The combination of the two have wrought disastrous consequences nationwide.
The mayor is technically to top dog of the police force much in the same way as the POTUS is the top dog of the military. I could rationalize the mayor being there but not the AG or governor.
Mayor Eric Adams is, again, along with so many others, a joke and a shame.
They only want to appease criminals while the rest of society has to suffer.
What fact led you to conclude that they weren't criminals, themselves? They're just following the law of the jungle - predators are "good", prey are "good to eat", and prey who fight back are "bad".
There was once a time governments were instituted among men to secure endowed rights from predators. Then predators infiltrated the government.
