Middle school kid (Damian Haglund), 14, stole his grandfathers car and gun at 11:00 AM yesterday, crashed the car into a house, then walked to the middle school parking lot, firing multiple rounds. Students alerted parents and school officials.
The suspect, before police arrived, had gone to the cafeteria section and while outside banged on the glass window with the stock end of the rifle, apparently smiling at horrified students inside the cafeteria.
He was not able to get into the school, as police soon confronted him and fatally shot by several police officers including the resource school officer.
Tagging on information about ANOTHER planned school shooting which got very little media attention about a month ago, in which the suspect was arrested – trans (female, identifies as a male), 18 year old from Maryland, planned a school shooting at an elementary school. She was reported to police, arrested, and a 129 page manifesto was found at her home.
The channel 3 article refers to the shooter as "they". I wonder if it's another trans kid involved in this one? Mental heath issues are behind a lot of this sort of thing and gender dysphoria is a mental illness. A rather severe one.
A person determined to commit suicide by cop is almost impossible to disarm and detain, regardless of age. So the the answer is, no - nor should they be expected to risk their own lives, let alone the lives of innocent bystanders, to do so.

These mass shootings are just terrible. When did we make the miserable leap from killing oneself to killing the people directly responsible for your unhappiness as in Bullies and Bosses to taking out as many innocent people that are just in the wrong place at the wrong time?
What can be done to change this mental, deranged mentality?
A case like this goes beyond BANNING GUNS. The kid stole his grandfathers car and could have just as easily driven it onto a busy sidewalk or plowed into a line of kids getting onto a school bus.
We are suffering a serious disconnect between Life and the Feelings of a deranged, hopeless individual.
