Xi is playing both sides. China can’t afford to trade $52 trillion economy of Europe and US combined for one smaller than the GDP of Texas.
You still measuring the value of real economies in USD? How quaint.
In any case, China does not have to give one up for the other; as mentioned, they can well afford many times over to play both sides of the street, leaning one way or the other opportunistically according to circumstances as they arise from time to time.
NOW China is trying to convince EU that they are the "most important trade partner" with China. US is not all that important.
When China manages to unite and ally with the EU, not saying it could succeed but it’s trying, the US is done. Germany and France don’t seem to be willing to cut their economic and trade relations with China as the US is. The advantage of the the Chinese dictatorship system is that it has a total control over their citizens and has brainwashed their citizens into human machines…working hard, asking for little return, totally opposite to the mindset sweeping through the American workforce today.
Thanks to Biden's foreign policy that turned the world's number 2&3 military powers into one gigantic ally that will pose ever-lasting challenge to American geopolitical interests worldwide. With China's support, the Rus-Ukr war will end only when ukranian adult males are completely depleted.
Maybe Trump could break them up in 2025?
Putin and Xi pledge a new era and condemn the United States
China and Russia are NOT allies.
There is not treaties, promising military involvement if either side is attacked. NONE.
China is very Chinese on SMO in Ukraine. It expressed that it does not wish for Russia to lose or to win. yep.
There was no new documents signed allying those two countries.
China and Russia are in the "relationship of benevolent neighbours". Technically, Russia is covering China's back.
That's it. Please, do not call them allies, as they are not. Russia has only ONE ally, that being Belarus, and is in strategic solitude.
China sees Russia as useful idiots and they will conquer them as they conquer everything else
While the Europeans tried many times over the centuries to invade Russia and failed, including the 2014-2024 period so far, the Mongols were successful some 500-800 years ago.
So maybe the Chinese have a chance too.
More likely, if this keeps up, they will merge, more Chinese than Russian, at any rate both Asian.
One thing is certain, Russia will never be Europe.
Remember when the USSR and Germany teamed up to divvy up Poland? How did that turn out?
People forget that. Dictatorships are never really friends, they make temporary deals that suit them at the time but will break them at a moment’s notice if they see an advantage to it. China wants Siberia for its land and resources. One day Russia and China will fight a war over Siberia and Russia will have no chance at all. You could say that China is patiently watching Russia bleed itself out in Ukraine and when the time is right they will seize parts of Siberia.
China in control of the vast resources of Siberia will make them unstoppable and easily the most powerful nation on earth. We certainly don’t want to see that. One day we will be supporting Russia when they are battling a Chinese invasion. What we see today will not last.
No one is friends with China.
No one is a friend of Russia. OK. Maybe Belarus.
China is a fraud. Their economy is not near what they claim, and much of their technology has been stolen from the US. Some of their claims are outright dreams, with no reality. Like placing a nuclear reactor on the moon by 2035.
China has no raw materials; Russia does.
Both countries are losing working age population - fast!
Neither country is a threat to world peace, but a complete failure of Russia could create a world wide oil shortage, which, in turn, might light things up.
I think Xi sees the problem perfectly well. Russia cannot win in Ukraine, but must not be dealt a total defeat, either. For now, this oil-powered world needs Russia. For now.
