What the heck is going on here?

Another disarticulated human foot has been found in B.C. coastal waters. That makes five feet discovered near Vancouver since last summer.
Two right feet were found within six days of each other in August, on different small islands only a few dozen kilometres apart. A third right foot washed up in February, a little further to the south. Last month, a fourth right foot, reportedly a woman's, was spotted by a passerby in the sweeping Fraser River delta, closer to Vancouver.
And on Monday, yet another foot was found, also in the delta. A left foot, this one. Like all the others, it was encased in a running shoe, sock on.

Fifth washed-up foot in B.C. deepens mystery (http://www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=594558 - broken link)

I read about the 4th one a few weeks ago. Truly bizarre. I read something about the way the sneakers float would cause the right ones to be washed up in BC and the left somewhere else. But, I'm not sure if that's a plausible explanation.

Sixth foot found in B.C. leaves everyone baffled and at loss for explanation

VANCOUVER — Experts from police to forensic pathologists are at a loss to explain, or even identify, who belongs to six different feet that have washed ashore in British Columbia since last August.
Another foot was discovered Wednesday near Campbell River, on Vancouver Island, bringing to six the number of feet found, disembodied and still encased in a running shoe. So far, DNA testing hasn't helped identify the remains and the absence of explanation has fed wild rumours.

They could be from anywhere, even Asia, due to the nature of the tides. It's just impossible to say.

I saw this on the news and thought it was pretty hilarious. I, for one, would not want to claim one of those feet - even if it were mine!

UGH. The weirdest--and darkly funniest--thing about this story is how the writers/reporters seem flummoxed by the left-vs.-right issue. As in, "Usually, it's RIGHT feet, and that's just normal, but all of a sudden, LEFT feet are turning up! CRAZY! Lions lying down with lambs! Adidas, not Nike! What is this world coming to?"
