Both states where gay marriage is legal have had it imposed on them by the courts.

Which state will be the first to pass gay marriage at the ballot box and when? (California voting not to ban gay marriages in November doesn't count.)

I would say Oregon, Maine, or Rhode Island. Also, it will happen between 5 and 10 years from now.

(Please no debate on gay marriage. There are other threads for that.)

Why not?

I thought an Amendment to the Calif Constitution was going to be on the ballot for the voters to determine what they want in their state.

I am more interested in which state will vote in gay marriage rather than reaffirm it. Once a court legalizes it and it has been in effect for a few months I think the chances of the voters overturning gay marriage go down significantly.

There should definately be a gay/lesbian issues subforum in the politics forum. They are at LEAST a third of all the threads here.

I'd say Vermont. But then again, if civil rights were something to be voted on, we would still have Jim Crow in many Southern states. Sometimes equal rights need to trump the prejudices of the majority.

Sorry that you're so offended by people who aren't doing anything to you. All of that passion and hatred could be directed at something productive...
