My wife hears day in and day out (she works in collections for a financial institution that cover loans for vehicles) about how "gas" is the reason they can't afford their 500-1000+ payment on a 30-50k vehicle.
My wife and I moved to be closer to her work (worked for us, I understand it doesn't work for everyone) in order to cut costs on gas. It wasn't out of a "omg we can't survive" issue, but merely out of a want to keep more money in our pocket as possible.
The point is that if a person is complaining about roughly a 200 dollar a month increase (and this is consistent with people who drive roughly 45 mins or more to work both ways), then they didn't budget well enough and they were overspending in the first place.
Yet, in the cases my wife deals with (and she gets all the details she can), these people aren't driving excessive amounts of miles to work, they merely are looking for excuses to their irresponsible spending. I mean, who complains about gas prices when you are making 700 buck a month payments on a vehicle. To quote Forrest Gump, stupid is as stupid does.
Simply put, if Gas is causing you hardships, Gas is the least of your problems and the problem more than likely is a result of your own principals in spending.

Well, I don't know about that. I try not to drive my car that much, I like to take the bus, however my part-time job is ALL driving, too much driving. However, it pays me enough to cover my car payments & insurance. What I'm trying to say, is that for some of us, the gas prices DO hurt us, even when we're trying not to let it but it happens anyway.
