Great news. It'll be nice if the privately wealthy (tycoons, billionaires, Paris Hilton) put up some of their wealth to "bail out" their peers. But no. They choose to be tight at the expense of the rest of the American people, and let the government pick up the slack. Finally, they are doing something smart.

Those of us who have been following this farce closely know exactly what we are doing. There is nothing coincidental about the fact that this bill did not pass. Every single incumbent who is up for re-election either received a phone call, fax or email to inform them that we did not appreciate them putting our future generations in debt in order to bail out the willful wall street crooks. We also apprised them of the fact that we were also aware of the millions of our tax dollars in pork intended for LaRaza and Acorn.

I don't know about you but as a hardworking, taxpayer who lives within her means, I find it disgusting that the crooks on wall street can destroy financial institutions and be rewarded a golden parachute on the way out, while the rest of us are expected to take a golden shower.

"At the same time that the American taxpayer was being asked to bail these companies out, Barney Frank, the chairman of the Financial Services Committee, instituted a sort of tax on Freddie and Fannie, and that tax goes into what's called an affordable housing trust fund," explains Bachmann. "It's a really a taxpayer-subsidized housing fund, but that money will go to organizations like La Raza and...ACORN." Both groups -- "particularly ACORN," says Bachmann -- have been found to be involved in "activities where they have perpetrated voter fraud," she contends.

Housing 'bailout' contains millions in earmarks for leftist groups (OneNewsNow.com)

The American People are prepared to suffer and fight for their country to get rid of the corrupt fat cats. For too long the country has been held to ransom by corrupt corporations that have the Govt. in their pockets. There are already in place ways to sort this mess out. Chapter 7 for the failing companies and criminal investigations for the corruption within the companies. Why is the tax payer buying the toxic debt? Would you go to a shop and pick the rotten peaches? This rot must be cut out and not fed with more money. Poulson has millions invested in Leehmans and of course he wants this bailout to work. His face and demeanor said it all today. He looked like a guy who is just about to lose his shirt if his company sinks. America is now being blackmailed by the elite who now see their billion dollar ride coming to an end. They say they want to save the American people when really they just want to save their investments. Burst this boil and let America recover.

Agreed. Allowing the situation to worsen before it gets better will teach the crooks on wallstreet a lesson. It will also teach lessons to all of those who fraudulently obtained mortgages and knew they could not afford them, and those who run out and charge every little crappy gadget that they can't afford (i.e. playstations, iphones, etc.) just because it's the latest toy and they want it.

I am willing to suffer if it forces those guilty of the above to learn to live within their means.

I'd much rather suffer than see greed prosper once again.
Thanks so much for this post.

That one passed on Saturday. $612billion in spending with $70bn of it going to Iraq/Afghanistan. Some going to give soldiers raises, the rest providing a missile defense shield in Poland that is bound to irritate the Russians.
