Hua, Hua Guofeng
He got rid of Mao Zedong

Deng, Deng Xiaoping
woker's power in Bejing,

Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

Mao...

For good or for evil, one of the most influential Marxist of the 20th Century, alongside Lenin, Stalin and Trostsky in international influence on Marxist thought and practice.

As for today's society, well there are still Maoist movements across the globe especially amongst agrarian socialist revolutionaries. Outside of that, Mao is about as relevant as Stalin, which means not much at all.

If I were to step out of a time machine into the year 3008, the first person people would ask me about would be Mao. No other person in the 20-th century has had such a historic impact on the planet.

He was a total, illogical nutcase. He wanted to grow bananas in northern china and have the people smelting iron in their backyards

That said he was right on one thing: "War is politics with bloodshed. Politics is war without bloodshed"

He was an excellent organizer, although apparently not as good as Sun Yat Sen or Chiang-Kai Shek, as Bukanin and the Soviets supported the KMT from the 1920s through the early latter part of WW II.

The Long March was probably his greatest triumph, but after that it appears he degenerated into the "cult of personality" and from that point on his influence was quite disruptive and not very constructive.

Mao's economic policies caused a huge famine in China during the late 50's. There's a reason the Chinese became more capitalist after Mao's reign.

Quote:
Mao's policies had failed, but those in the government who criticized him directly, such as Peng Dehuai, were humiliated and purged from office...

Hopefully far, far away because his social programs are responsible for the death of millions of people.
