"Let us resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship and
pettiness and immaturity that has poisoned our politics for so long. Let us
remember that it was a man from this state who first carried the banner of the
Republican Party to the White House-a party founded on the values of
self-reliance, individual liberty, and national unity. Those are values we all share, and while the Democratic Party has won a great victory tonight, we do so with a measure of humility and determination to heal the divides that have held back our progress. As Lincoln said to a nation far more divided than ours, We are not enemies, but friends though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn-I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your President too."

Seriously, what do you think of this proposal? Especially the italicized part.

There you have it folks, posted on a board that is literally ON FIRE with posters sniping back and forth at each other nearly 40 minutes ago and no replies. Proof that conservatives would rather cut off the hand reaching out to them at this very moment in order to see the United States of America wither and die for nothing more than sour grapes.

It is in his best interest to say that. Greasy politics my friend.

What is so great about national unity? Isn't debate supposed to be good for resolutaion of issues that are not easily solved? Isn't National Unity what they have in autocratic dictatorships? Switzerland has no national unity, and may be the most successful nation in the history of the world. despite four official languages. Five, if you count the Latin name for the country on their coins and postage stamps.

If he is sincere about it, I find it somewhat touching. As a Christian, I am exhorted by the Bible to pray for our leaders and those in authority and I intend to do that.

I don't see a hand reaching out, I see a man who believes deeply in Marxist ideas...a man who wants to toss America deeper into the entitlement abyss. His idealogy is not one of self-sufficiency and determination but one of handouts and government power. He does not believe in the goodwill of charity (giving 1% of his massive income to charity) but that the government should encourage mediocrity and stand there with a net under each and every citizen.

I don't feel entitled to the fruits of another's labor, there is nothing that Obama is offering that I want any part of.

"... a new dawn of American leadership is at hand."

There's nothing to comment on. There is no proposal. The devil is always in the details, and he didn't provide any details, as usual.
