The historic election of Sen. Barack Obama as the first black president also has the potential to transform the nation’s health care system from a hodgepodge of state and federal programs — which fail to cover about 50 million uninsured Americans — to a uniform, pubic and privately administrated universal health care plan that covers everyone.

Link to rest.

Excellent link! I particularly liked this part of the article (below) - and particularly the statement about cutting out or reducing fees to the middlemen (insurance companies). Yes, of course we need insurance companies in some aspects of our lives but it all seems to have gotten a little out of control to the point where insurance companies now seem to invade too many parts of our lives.

Many Democrats in Congress as well as health care experts consider this program {Medicare}, which subsidizes seniors’ prescriptions by purportedly fostering competition between private insurance companies, as wasteful and a windfall for drug companies. Sources tell us, the current implosion of financial markets and the subsequent bailout only strengthen Democrats chances of revamping the entire program — cutting out, or reducing fees, to what they perceive as costly, insurance middlemen.

Thanks for posting this link! I only wish there could be a more enlightened discussion besides the oft-heard phrase "National health care is just another move towards socialism".

Yepp, the Same Government that runs our Social Security system, the IRS, the FED and so many other failing programs is now gonna give us the same great service in Health care. Not the change we are looking for.

It's not?

From the article...

Nonetheless, sources tell us they are confident that an Obama administration, empowered by a overwhelmingly Democratic Congress, will eventually find additional funding for expanding and transforming the nation’s health care by disengaging in the Iraq war,

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! Yeah, like that's going to happen with the most liberal senator as President and an overwhelming Democrat majority in congress...

Let me get this straight - they say he's going to "reduce bureaucratic waste throughout the federal government" and at the same time "transform the nation’s health care system"? HA!

Question: Would you rather pay for a war on another continent or a functioning health care system for all your fellow Americans?

Loaded, off-topic question.

It's not "one or the other." Why don't we finish mopping up in Iraq and then use the savings for paying down the national debt? Why do we have to spend it elsewhere?

We now return you to the topic at hand...

Edit: Why didn't you answer my question?

Obamacare provisions start Oct 1 2013, about 3.5 months away.

Amazing how it's blamed even before it starts....shows complete partisan willful ignorance.

Why don't you conservatives fix our government instead of only bitching about it?

Fact is SS has functioned perfectly, and it will remain solid for a long time.

But the IRS needs to be fine tuned.
Our welfare system needs to be overhauled.
ex.ex.ex.

Also I believe Obamacare may have a few problems (that conservatives notice.)
And remember Obamacare is a copy of Romneycare.

Stop bitching and start fixin.
(sorry for bossing you around, I was just joking.)

Have a good one,
Chad.
