Listening to his first press conference yesterday as "president-elect" and noticed him mentioning the "middle class" many times. The question is, what does B. Obama mean exactly when speaking of the middle class?

Does this entail those that are between a certain income?. (ex. .01 to 100,000.00) Or does it mean the "employee" sector of our population? Or does he mean those that "work" for a living?

I find his incessant use of the phrase "middle class" to be of a description vague in relation to his rhetoric/policy proposed during campaign/election cycle.

As you see, i'm a bit confused here and need some clarity on the issue. Any insight would be of use.

Abstract thoughts in relation to the press conference yesterday - -

He mentioned A. Lincoln being an inspiration. Funny, i thought, a president who "penciled his interest" more than any other president to date. (IMO)

Another is all the talk of him being a great orator. That was not evident in yesterdays speech. Lots of "uh" or "uhs" in there which, frankly, was getting on my nerves after a bit.

At last, Mad TV is going to have a ball doing parodies on B. Obama. That guy, Michael Keegan does a better Obama. I can see one now - - B. Obama's inaguration at the the White House playing the song "Ain't nothin' but a gansta party" while getting all "crunked".

Well, at some point it was $250K. Then it was $200K, then $150K. I think the most recent number is $97,000. Go here:

YouTube - Obama: families making $97,000 are "upper class" and should pay more taxes

I think he's made himself clear on what the middle-class generally means - those making $250,000 or under annually. He has also talked about helping the 'small business' sector of the economy - and has talked about a $3000 tax credit to companies/corporations for each new American hired - as opposed to shipping that job overseas. That's for starters! He knows full-well that getting the economy back on track is the major priority..

Thanks for your replies SarahSal and bbkaren!

One more question - Does a small business whose earnings are under 250,000.00 constitutes "middle-class" in Barak Obama's line of rationale?

Just wonderin'....

Well, now that he's safely in the White House, the numbers will probably drop to somewhere in the $20k to $30k range...

Let's put it this way, we're all destined to either pay for welfare, or collect from it.

Yep. In other words, no more private property. Our earnings are owned by the government, and we get some of it back (if there's any left) at the government's discretion.
