Daddy Bush did not "put Saddam in power." Saddam became Pres. of Iraq in 1979, during the Carter administration and long before the Bush administration.
In 1963, a CIA-organized coup did successfully assassinate Qasim and Saddam's Ba'ath Party came to power for the first time, but Regan is the one who started to weaponize him.
"Conventional military sales resumed in December 1982. In 1983, the Reagan administration approved the sale of 60 Hughes helicopters to Iraq in 1983 "for civilian use". However, as Phythian pointed out, these aircraft could be "weaponised" within hours of delivery. Then US Secretary of State George Schultz and commerce secretary George Baldridge also lobbied for the delivery of Bell helicopters equipped for "crop spraying". It is believed that US-supplied choppers were used in the 1988 chemical attack on the Kurdish village of Halabja, which killed 5000 people.
With the Reagan administration's connivance, Baghdad immediately embarked on a massive militarisation drive. This US-endorsed military spending spree began even before Iraq was delisted as a terrorist state, when the US commerce department approved the sale of Italian gas turbine engines for Iraq's naval frigates."
Again, Saddam became Pres. of Iraq in 1979. The elder Bush did not "put him in power."
And weapons were supplied to Iraq by the U.S. because at the time, Iran was our enemy. Also, many more weapons were given to Iraq by other countries than by the U.S. It has been discussed on these boards before.

Not 'given', sold. The US is in the arms selling biz, in case you didn't know. Regan and Bush Sr were then ones who did the most to make Sadaam absolute ruler of Iraq.

He was the "ruler" of Iraq before Reagan and Bush were President(s).
By the time Saddam became President in 1979, he had already been running the country from the #2 spot for a decade...i.e., from Richard Nixon's time.
If Reagan's on-going support for Saddam was justified by the fact that Iran was at the time our enemy, why did Reagan also provide military support to Iran from the very early months of his time in office?

Thanks to the CIA who put him into power in 1963:
In 1963, Saddam Hussein worked with the CIA to carry out the coup by the Baath party, which eventually brought him to power in Iraq. The book, A Brutal Friendship: The West and the Arab Elite by Said K. Aburish, which was reviewed recently in Counterpunch (The CIA: Lest We Forget, CounterPunch. Sept.16-30 1997, p.2), describes how the CIA, Saddam and other members of the Baath party collaborated to bring about the coup, murdering perhaps 5,000 people in the process. The United States went on to help Saddam win the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s. According to Noam Chomsky, There were no passionate calls for a military strike after Saddam's gassing of Kurds at Halabja in March, 1988; on the contrary, the US and U.K. extended their strong support for the mass murderer, then, also 'our kind of guy' (Iraq and the UN Sanctions, The Economist, Nov.19 1994, p.47)

I don't 'hate America' - that seems to be the ultimate refuge of idiots like yourself who get talked out of the stupid positions you ascribe to. Believe me, America gets a lot more milage out of intelligent workers like me than idiots like yourself.
