Think about it... a liberal appointing a centrist that leans toward the right for the powerful position of Sec. of Treasury? Summers, a conservative Dem... is possibly slanted for something possibly higher? Are you still convinced Obama is really a liberal?

I'm taking on the mantle that Obama world's view is conservative, his policies, liberal (reflecting his private belief that a Christian man's responsibility is to serve and relieve suffering whenever, wherever he can ((an old Christian belief that men had about 100+ years ago)) and that his approach to solving problems is pragmatic, thoughtful, deliberate. No one has been able to understand why he does what he does, but from this perspective, he then appears more "predictable". I'm going to continue researching his relationship with conservatives. (googling conservatives for Obama and branching from there).

What's your reaction to Geithner's appointment or even Hillary? How do you think he would use Summer's , if at all?

Also shock upon shock... Charlie Rangel was on cnbc proposing to CUT Capital Gains Taxes!!!??? rofl A FAR left liberal suggesting that??? LOL ... The world must be comming to an end! He got the message quick!!! Obama won't pay to much attention to liberals unless they come in there and make sense! They know his history LOL

The GOP, Fox News, right wing radio, etc have been throwing everything they can think of at Obama without really knowing what the heck they're talking about. They're just making assumptions and the man is not even in office yet. That's OK. Some of us know what happens when you ASSume: you end up looking like an arse. Not that it matters to me, but have you noticed that for being an alleged Muslim, Obama sure has a whole lot of Jewish folks on his team! Tells you how much the aforementioned hacks really know.

I think Obama is neither a conservative nor a liberal. He knows that to be reelected and to bring the country together he needs to govern from the center. On election night he said he intends to "earn the support" of those who did not vote for him. Obama is a pragmatist indeed. He appears cool, calm, collected. Not much drama or bravado. He is not an "either you're with me or against me" type of man. God knows we've had enough of that already.

For the sake of the country, I hope Geithner performs better than Paulson. He brings with him a track record as a problem solver. Larry Summers is an extremely smart man albeit controversial. I hope Obama uses him too.

Now, lets see how the markets react to all those appointments. All Wall Street knows right now is that nobody knows what the heck is going on and there is absolutely no leadership coming out of the WH. Wall Street is desperately looking for leadership. Hope Wall Street reacts favorably to the Obama appointments.

As far as Charlie Rangel goes, he knows he'd better get with the program or he'll become even more insignificant than he already is.

Tim Geithner is in much the same mold as Eric Holder...very sharp, widely respected, and not packing any sort of partisan baggage. These are two very solid selections...

500 in the last two hours. The only reason it didn't go higher was time ran out. I'm betting Monday it'll continue up due to buyers who (like me) who only got the news after the markets closed.
