Err...your Washington Times article does not contain the word "communist."
"The Commission for a Sustainable World Society includes world leaders from a variety of political parties, including British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who succeeded Tony Blair, in serving as vice president of the convening organization," Obama transition spokesman Nick Shapiro said.
Please explain the difference between a socialist and a communist.
Thanks.
Wow. There are whole semesters in college devoted to such a question, but some of the top google hits for a quickie answer:
Socialism is not communism. They are very different things. Communism is a political philosophy centered on an authoritarian government planning the economy by establishing industries of the nation state, the dictating the production, price and the distribution of wealth. Socialism is capitalism with a few changes. Socialism the government (in general) reserves the right to regulate, invest, in the major industries vital to stability of the economy and general welfare of the people of the nation. Such as the Banking, Lending and Trade, Credit, Energy (Oil, Coal, etc.),Stock exchange, Pharmaceutical, Medical Technology, Heath Insurance, Agriculture Industries. Another difference between socialism and communism is that communists assert that both capitalism and private ownership of means of production must be done away with as soon as possible in order to make sure a classless society, the communist ideal, is formed. Socialists, however, see capitalism as a possible part of the ideal state and believe that socialism can exist in a capitalist society. In fact, one of the ideas of socialism is that everyone within the society will benefit from capitalism as much as possible as long as the capitalism is controlled somehow by a centralized planning system. What is the Difference Between Socialism and Communism?
Think Scandinavia versus the USSR. There are some rather stark contrasts there.
What are you talking about? This lady is exactly what is needed to deal with the damage that has been done in the last 8 years. Yes, her name and picture appeared on a website the article describes as " an umbrella group for many of the world's social democratic political parties such as Britain's Labor Party, says it supports socialism and is harshly critical of U.S. policies".
Well so what? Socialism isn't illegal. It's a political and economic system, recognized around the world. In the USA Socialists are free to form a political party, vote and run for office. I hope you are not attacking the American form of government and way of life by suggesting otherwise.
Im curious why the OP has not responded to the above claims; to point out where the word communist is used in the article, to define communism and socialism, and finally to the claim that they lied on the title.
