Prop. 8 backers splinter as court fight resumes

This is classic. Bigots are dumping on other bigots. They didn't mind accepting their help when they were needed to swing the vote. After they got what they wanted, they now decide to dump them. Hmm... isn't this the same song and dance that happens with the repugs every 4 years?

At least the "extreme wing" is intellectually honest.

The "moderate" supporters of prop 8 are full of doublespeak. They support "marriage rights" but not "marriage" and they insist that banning gay marriage isn't anti-gay, it's just pro-marriage (what?).

Don't get me wrong. I'm not supporting them. But at least the extremists are straightforward about their bigotry instead of hiding behind bull****.

I feel you on that....

If you're a bigot and you just come out and let it be known by opening your ignorant mouth... cool..then people know what you are.
but don't sit here and profess to be something your not by trying to tell everyone that an apple is an orange, or that blue is red, or that not accepting bigotry is not being open minded.
give me an f'ing break.

There's deep seeded intolerance in the world, some of it stems from cultural beliefs and customs, but for the most part most of it comes from Religion. If you can convince people that jesus wouldn't approve of left handed people, we'd have left handers burned at the stake, and shunned, and spoken unkindly of, with disgust etc.
People are pretty screwed up, and some at the top of those religions are pretty smart. They figured out thousands of years ago, that power and control can be had, by tapping into the psychology of the human mind, and it's fear of the unknown. You don't have to provide any evidence, just provide the masses with a "story" something they can believe in and put hope in. If it happens to spin a bit of hate and intolerance into it all, it's a minor price to pay, and can be used to stamp out of society people who will not or cannot conform to the belief. Quite clever really, considering there's still idiots out there today holding onto it at all costs and being a douchebag in the name of god to people, because they've convinced themselves they are on some sort of "right side"

Left-handed people WERE shunned, spoken unkindly of and burned at the stake or hung. Left-handedness was seen as a sign of the devil or of a witch.

Left handed myths and misunderstandings

Strangely enough, left-handers make up around 7-10% of the population.

Love is one thing that this world has very little of, and all these religious people have done is stomped in the face of love that is percieved as different to theirs.
Sad really, considering the foundation for their beliefs is suppose to be love.
I think it's easy for anyone with a logical mind to understand and see what these organized religions are all about and what really is at stake in all these "debates of nonsense" its not about what god wants or what god would approve of, or what is a sin or what is an abomination. It's about power, control, influence, and greed. As long as they can keep themselves on a percieved holy high road, they'll continue to fool the masses into thinking they're something they're not.
These people have god and jesus and mohammed, and allah and whatever else on the tips of their tongues in everything they do, I hope that you are sound and correct in your positions in speaking for these figures, because if they do exist, and there is some sort of judgement day you better be right, or you're going to look like a fool, and face the knowledge that your actions in life have hurt many people, and you've done them all with a your personalized stamp of god on it.

well there ya go...

I was using it more as an analogy, rather than of fact, but since you've provided evidence into the fact it only further supports the same mindsets that take ignorance and make it commonplace and acceptible behavior for society.

Truth.

The "redefinition" of marriage is one that's been happening for a thousand years. Instead of it being about home economics, cattle, and making peace between monarchs, it's increasingly about love. Legalizing gay marriage is one of the last steps to making marriage truly, fully, a matter of love.

And yet the very people who claim to espouse love as part of their religion are blind to seeing it in any context different than their own.
