Mexico is a corrupt & failed culture/nation, and that's a big part of why Mexicans want to get the hell out of there.
You're absolutely right.
And no matter what we say or do, until Mexico at least TRIES to get it's act together, Mexicans will be taking whatever drastic measures are necessary to get out of there. That means they'll come to the United States, or die trying.
Immigration reform is much needed, but is going to be very very difficult and complicated.
As I see it the primary problem with Mexican culture and government is the distinct class differences in the society. The government is and of the middle and upper classes and functions to protect their businesses, property and existing wealth. The government does not even recognize the lower class Mexicans, nigritos or indios even exist except as a labor pool to be exploited as needed. Effectively these people are below the law except as they negatively impact the upper classes.
The upper classes do not see any reason to spend the time money and lives needed to extend the protection of the Law to the underclass. Without any law or property rights the poor insist on doing whatever it takes to make a survival living and create a separate (gang) law for themselves. They support the drug gangs because that is where the money is to be made and, as personal guns are effectively illegal in Mexico, the thugs are armed thugs, and are something to justifiably fear.
I think it is past time for another Mexican Revolution where the power and privilege of the Hidalgos is stripped away and a government that extends the Rule of Law, not personalities, to all of the Mexican people and works to increase the economic standing of all, not just the few. Economic and legal feudalism is no longer and adequate or justifiable for of government.
If such a revolution gets started in either a violent or peaceful manner I expect our government will oppose it however, including economic manipulation, propaganda and military invasion, we can. A populist revolution in Mexico may lead to a similar reorganization of our own society and the Princes of Wall Street would not like the results.
What is it with violence in arid climates? I think the heat goes to their heads.
