(CNN) — First Lady Laura Bush said that although she “wasn’t amused” when an Iraqi journalist threw shoes at her husband, she sees the incident as a sign that “Iraqis feel a lot freer to express themselves.”

Earlier this month, an Iraqi journalist threw shoes at President Bush during a news conference in Baghdad. Bush ducked, and the shoes, flung one at a time, sailed past his head.

Talk about making mountains out of mole hills, its just a pair of shoes, not the holy grail!

The incident would have been funnier had Bush actually be hit.

I'd expect her not to be amused. What is the news story here then?

That would only be true to the disrespectful Bush haters - whose behavior speaks for itself.

The only real story here is that, when Saddam was in power, this guy would have been immediately executed - as well as his entire family.

Despite everything else, yes, there has been positive change in Iraq.

Laura is GWB's wife so it's understandable that she would not find the incident funny especially as he could have been hurt. How would you feel if your husband or wife had shoes thrown viciously at them?

Yeah, I wouldn't be amused either if someone threw something at one of my loved one's head. It was pretty classless. He can scream all he wants that Bush is a dog or whatever but physically trying to harm someone just isn't right. It wasn't funny at all.

That's funny, because most of the world was laughing AT Bush. There is a universal lack of respect for Bush, and she wants us to take umbrage for the act?

Would you feel the same way if Obama got hit between the eyes with a shoe?

Mr. Bush and Mr. Obama have much in common. Both are exceptional fit and quick.
Mr. Obama would have shown the same quick moves and grace under pressure in a like situation.

Anyone who actually saw the video would know that.
