SOME Christians look bad...not all, you should have clarified.
Not all Christians hate gays or think homosexuality is a disease....just like not all nonreligious are all accepting of gay people or think homosexuality is okay.

In any case, I wish the media would stop paying so much attention to Ted and his sad little life.
I feel for his wife, she deserves a husband who loves her and not someone who is using her as a prop to fool people into thinking he's heterosexual.

On the Oprah program - did they talk about the Jones guy's recent statement? If they did - was Ted kind, empathetic?

What do you think Oprah thought?
There was a little talk about Jones, can't recall much.

Oprah seemed to be disgusted with him, at least that's my take upon trying to read her facial expressions and tone of voice.

Actually, the church was right for forcing him out because he is gay. There are requirements for being a pastor, according to the Bible, which he preached from/supposedly believed in. He did not meet those requirements.

Forgiveness has nothing to do with it.

But Christian forgiveness, unselfishness, love and "casting the first stone" are the bigger question.

You got that right. It's all about the MONEY! Get him out of here and out of town before he upsets the flow of MONEY into New Life Church and Focus on the Family. OOPS, too late.

New Life Church membership dropped almost immediately from 14,000 to 10,000 and the reduction in MONEY caused them to lay off 44 people. Focus on the Family has had annual reductions in MONEY and let people go each year.

Speaking generically, to the general public (not to Betty or Delus): It's the MONEY stupid!

Today's WaPo has a review of the HBO special on Haggard, with some interesting observations. LINK: washingtonpost.com

This excerpt is very telling about the overall level of "Christian forgiveness, unselfishness, love and casting the first stone" aspects of Ted's peers in the world of fundamentalist evangelicalism:

- ... among evangelical leaders Haggard was viewed as a moderate, a cautious reformer who urged his brethren to speak civilly about Islam and backed efforts by the National Association of Evangelicals to treat climate change as a religious issue. A lot of his ostensible compadres were delighted to see him fall. The villains in Pelosi's documentary are the dour men who took over Haggard's church and forced his family into exile. They wear shirts a size too large around the neck. They are unsmiling, businesslike, corporate in the worst sense of the word. When they pronounce Haggard cured -- "completely heterosexual" -- he just laughs and says they're trying to be nice.

I don't feel for his wife. She's staying with him for money. Any woman who respects herself wouldn't stay with a man who had homosexual affairs unless she were getting something out of the relationship. If she's being used, she's allowing herself to be used.
