President Obama may be riding high in Washington, but OBAMA 1260 is not.
The area's only progressive talk station is changing formats, dropping such syndicated liberal hosts as Ed Schultz, Stephanie Miller and Bill Press in favor of financial news, starting next week.
Program Director Greg Tantum says he thought the station could work because of enthusiasm over Obama, but that ratings collapsed to a level that could not be measured after the election.
But ratings nearly doubled, he says, at Snyder's conservative station, WTNT, which features Laura Ingraham and Bill Bennett.
Amazing, isn't it? Even fellow dems and libs can't stand to listen to the vitriol from the Left.
For what it's worth, it sounds as though this station was pretty much in the pits to begin with:
The major problem with this station was not its liberalism but the fact that most of the content was horrible. It ran the gamut from Ed Schultz, who I like, to just lame stuff like some program called “Clout†which was just the sort of NPR-lite programming too often put on liberal talk stations. People want hot talk, not a lecture without phone calls.
But even worse was the fact that the station management clearly didn’t care about the station. There was not a single bit of local programming on the air, not even a morning show! To succeed in talk radio you can’t just jam in syndicated stuff.
And EVEN WORSE, because they ran the station “automaticallyâ€, there were whole nights where the signal went off the air or an audible, loud beep just droned on. Nobody was paying attention.
Changing the call sign to “Obama 1260″ was a last desperate move of a lame station that should have died long ago.

I'm glad to see this. Its a total waste of time and resources. The Democrats have no need to endlessly scapegoat and pat themselves on the back as apparently the Right does. Don't follow their bad example.

I'm not what you would call an Obama fan but there are two sides to every story.
Ha. Blaming others for your own failure....that station manager was a right-winger.
Actually, maybe he wasnt, maybe it broke his heart to have to oversee an "automatic" station like the Maytag repairman - but the station is owned by the man who owns the Redskins - it was just a placeholder business venture....they'll have a new format tomorrow.

Red Zebra flips recently acquired News/Talk WTNT-AM/Washington, DC, to Political Talk as "McCain 570 WTNT," while sister Liberal Talk WWRC-AM becomes "Obama 1260." Each will feature a mix of election talk, opinion and analysis from both sides of the campaign, as well as the appropriate lineup of syndicated air personalities.

As of September 15, 2008, WTNT-AM was branded as "McCain 570" while maintaining its conservative talk plus news coverage from Fox News. The temporary branding lasted throughout the 2008 Presidential Election. [1] As of November 10, 2008; WTNT renames this station to its current branding.
Hmmm already existed but for the election changed to McCain radio. Wonder about radio Obama? Hmmmmm whats going on here and this thread?
This is the full quote from the link.
The move by Redskins owner Dan Snyder, who purchased the station, WWRC, and others in Washington last summer, leaves the city without a liberal radio outlet. Program Director Greg Tantum says he thought the station could work because of enthusiasm over Obama, but that ratings collapsed to a level that could not be measured after the election.
