I wasn't too thrilled with this guy because he's a Blue dog Dem but nobody conservative or liberal should be happy with this guy after reading what a cozy Washington insider he is. Granted, it's his actions from now on that will matter not what he's done in the past....but Obama appears to have dropped the ball with this pick.
In Washington there are whores and there are whores, and then there is Tom Daschle. Tom Daschle would suck off a corpse for a cheeseburger. True, he is probably only the second-biggest ***** for the health care industry in American politics — the biggest being doctor/cat-torturer Bill Frist, whose visit to South Dakota on behalf of John Thune in 2004 was one of the factors in ending Daschle's tenure in the Senate.
But in picking Daschle — who as an adviser to the K Street law firm Alston and Bird has spent the last four years burning up the sheets with the nation's fattest insurance and pharmaceutical interests — Obama is essentially announcing that he has no intention of seriously reforming the health care industry. . . .
Regarding Daschle, remember, we're talking about a guy who not only was a consultant for one of the top health-care law firms in the country, but a board member of the Mayo Clinic (a major recipient of NIH grants) and the husband of one of America's biggest defense lobbyists — wife Linda Hall lobbies for Lockheed-Martin and Boeing. Does anyone really think that this person is going to come up with a health care proposal that in any way cuts into the profits of the major health care companies?
I'm trying not to be too judgemental because I have faith in Obama. The only things I have found disapointing so far is Daschle and Geitner! Lets be honest though, he is a politician. I hope these guys do a good job our country depends on it.
Well I guess he will be nominated...Obama loves people who haven't paid taxes....this is the 2nd or 3rd person he will nominate for a job with the same tax background....as long as your name isn't Joe Francis or you are a Rep.

Probably the argument is that because he knows these health care folks and is known and liked in the Senate he's uniquely qualified to be the friendly middleman.
I don't personally have a problem with Daschle, but it does give me pause to hear that he missed paying over $120,000 dollars of taxes by accident. My god, I'm a tax paying American and to me that would be 8 or 10 years worth of federal taxes....and to him it obviously was a small enough part of this taxes that he just "missed" it ? What do you think your income must have to be if you missed paying that much in taxes.
I would find it hard to believe I'd "miss" paying the IRS $120,000 of taxes and not know that I owed them. My point is that we're not dealing with common folks in washintgon DC....and we wonder why our "leaders" can't relate to the problems of us common folks.
Maybe for once it would be nice to actually have leaders who have the same struggles that most of us have. If you can pull your checkbook out and write a check for $128,000 dollars.....this may be hard to believe, but my guess is that you're not able to relate to most of your constituents in SD.

He must think everybody gets free rides in chauffeur driven limousines. Yes, I honestly think he does.
