So should legal prescription drugs or alcohol also be illegal?

Or what about people crazy buzzed on caffeine who drive like maniacs?

You couldn't pay me enough to do it even if it was legal.
Ban the cigarettes too and bring prohibition back.

No problem. No problem at all.

Yes it should be legalized. Compare deaths due to alcohol/prescription drugs and deaths due to marijuana. No contest.

But why, in the name of god ,should we yet again take this approach when the only thing we know for sure is that it doesn't work?

We tried prohibition of alcohol in the 1920's and it was a complete and total failure. It did nothing to stop people from drinking and directly led to even more problems by creating a profit motive for the newly illegal activity.A whole culture of criminal activity sprung up around the profits which led to gang wars and violence known as "the roaring 20's"

We have been trying for the last 30 years (why I don't know) to prohibit the sale and use of most drugs.Once again,it has been a complete and total failure. It has done nothing to stop people from getting or doing drugs and has directly led to more problems by creating a profit motive for the illegal activity.A whole culture of criminal activity has sprung up around the profits which has led to gang wars and violence.

Sound like a broken record? It is.Let's all just bash our heads against the wall for a few weeks and see if that makes it all go away.At least it's not something we have already tried and know doesn't work.

Legalizing marijuana takes jobs away and some other theories regarding pharmaceutical companies, the Federales, etc. Moralize it all you want, it's going to remain illegal for recreational use. Maybe some states will allow medicinal use, but I doubt it. It's going to remain wishful thinking for the most part.

Agreed bluedog, that was my point. It really doesn't matter whether or not something is illegal, people will do it or NOT. Clearly that is the case now and really cannot be argued or denied. So is it worth imprisoning millions of mostly our men of color because they enter the drug trade? Usually it is a crime of poverty as it is rare to be heavily involved in the drug trade if one has other more viable options such as a real job that pays a LIVING WAGE. So we split up families, incarcerate millions of daddies, spend billions of our tax dollars, and we get NO WHERE in return. Drug use is just as rampant as it was before all this imprisonment really got going. Is that not correct or does anyone here disagree that drug use has not decreased one iota since this drug war commenced in the 80's?

The thing is, its been legal in california (not sure about other states) to grow and possess your own marijuana for medicinal purposes, or you can just go to one of the many marijuana clinics to buy it. But that is state law, which conflicts with federal law. I feel bad for the patients that are actually suffering from some type of ailment where marijuana provides the only relief, yet they just get blown off with comments like "they just wanna get high" etc.

Half the time the law winks at drug sales, the other half of the time the law throws the book at them (and rightfully so) but they never know which reaction they are going to get if they are caught but heck, any trained narcotic detective can outthink any drug pusher so let's crack down more on the drugs and send out a solid, unchanging message if you want to see drug selling and using stop................same went for Prohibition, bring Prohibition back but crack down on liquor.
