You can go incident-by-incident through the deaths that make up that number. You'll notice that they are all incidents of militant or war violence. The list does not include regular murders - domestic homicides, simple robberies, and all the non-militant violence that wouldn't attract the attention of soldiers.
Even so , that's a huge improvement compared to 2 years ago.
And , IIRC , there was no political killing at all on election day.
Today a female suicide bomber blew up a bunch of people killing forty women and children. That didn't happen in NYC it happened in Iraq. Until we have suicide bombers in this country I think the US is a much safer place to live.
Iraq might not be SAFER, per se; more like just a simpler place in which to figure out where one "stands". In Iraq, when you're invaded by foreigners, they wear uniforms, they're enemies, and you can shoot at them. Not so simple in the US, where the foreigners are 'workers', where they more-or-less blend in, and where the 'shooting' that goes on is more random
The local population in Iraq has many internal hatreds and divisions, of course.....but the local population in the US is REALLY divided....some of us say the foreigners are the "bad guys", while others insist it's us who are the invaders !!
Iraq sounds simple, by comparison...THEIR disagreements MIGHT one day be resolved. Ours? Don't count on it.....
189 people killed in Iraq in January nationwide. This number includes military and law enforcement deaths.
In a country of 22.8 million this works out to approximately 8 deaths per 100,000 people.
The U.S. currently sits at approximately 5 deaths per 100,000 people.
You have to admit that it is remarkable.
Hence the remark.
Are those 20' cement Jersey Barriers still in place separating the different neighborhoods?

United States Population: U.S. POPClock Projection
No Comparison needed. Iraq 22.8 million. US Population: Over 305 Billion. next thread please
Please attach the numbers outlining the distinction I'm failing to make.
The article included all deaths in Iraq in January.
I'm going to bet that there have been a lot of unreported violent deaths due to crime in Iraq.
