You steal 50 Billion (Madoff scheme) and you get 20 years +5 million dollar fine?
So basically, for every BILLION that you steal you do 5 months of jail and pay 250k each year..... don't you think the penalty is a bit "light"? How much is 50 billion worth? Less than the life of ONE person?
I would GLADLY steal one billion dollars for 5 months of jail.... heck I hear if you steal a 2k car, you do more time.... does this make sense at all?
Jail isn't just sitting in an isolated cell. It is interacting with potential violent psychopaths and gang members. You also have the probability of getting raped, infected with AIDS, beaten up, stabbed, and murdered. Let's be real.

justice system is too lenient with anybody with the money for a top notch lawyer.
OJ is not a white collar criminal but he does wear very nice white collars.
when you figure out how to take the power out of money let me know.
The real problem is that with any crime the sentence means nothing unlesss you get the de4ath penalty or severalo consective life terms plus so many days. its rampant thru out the justice system.
Madoff will never see a day behind bars in the usual jail that other most criminals would be sent to do their time. He’ll be going to a nice campus like facility, no bars, no courtyard with walls. He’ll be on the honor system and remain there doing his time. He will spend time in a low-security campus and have to report three or four times a day that he’s still there. If he leaves he will then see a different location with bars and wall.
He needs to spend HARD time with other inmates.
