FEC Investigation Confirms Obama Received Discount Mortga
Washington, DC -- February 9, 2009
FEC Dismisses Judicial Watch Complaint Alleging Northern Trust Provided Obama Special Discounts on "Super Super Jumbo" Home Loan
Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced today that the Federal Election Commission (FEC) has "closed the file" on Judicial Watch's complaint against Senator Barack Obama for allegedly accepting a below market rate mortgage loan in 2005 not available to the general consumer.
Oh no, that can't happen just for that. Oh my, you were talking about his natural born citizenship which he can't prove, it seems. He may well be naturalized, somehow, but we can't take that away for a minor crime like this.
Is the FEC part of the US government? If it is, does Obama have oversight of the FEC?
Along that same line nobody in the newly formulated FEC a carryover from the Bush administration? I ask this because I so well remember the way that Jimmy Carter's FEC destroyed a citizen group, I was a member, after his election through the FEC by fining them more than they could afford. In that same election Carter promised the National Education Association (NEA) that he would give them a separate cabinet level department for their gift of $4.5 million to campaign on. That was a totally illegal gift but the FEC found it fair. I was a member of the NEA up to that time and decided that belonging to a union that behaved like that just wasn't for me.
Sounds like the boneheads at Judicial Watch are desperately trying to spin something positive out of a smackdown defeat. They originally filed their complaint last July, alleging that only hanky-panky could have accounted for the Obama's mortgage being at 5.625% when surveys showed that the average in the area at the time was between 5.9 and 6.0%. Looks like being a wise shopper and a good credit risk are crimes now if you're thought of as a liberal. What a hoot...
Ovcatto and Saganista are correct. This was an entirely legal procedure, sounds like more grasping for straws on this one. This occurred well before the election and was available to many wealthy individuals who were creditworthy. If he was the only one maybe Judicial watch would have a point, but it was not uncommon for banks to extend themselves for wealthy clients back in 2005.

Northern Trust did admit that they made that kind of loan to a number of other people in the Obama monetary club and most of them turned out to be politicians like Obama. I think it is safe to say that the Washington Post was right when they suggested that the break in interest would amount to $300 [er month which would amount to $108,000 over the 30 year lifetime loan. The Judicial Watch group maintains that this amounts to a corporational campaign contribution and that is what their case is based on.
I mentioned earlier that the FEC is now made up of Obama appointees so this appeal is a waste of time for obvious reasons.

Fact: No new member of the FEC has been either named or confirmed since June 2008, so you are just blowing the usual right-wing hot air while putting forward a bravado based on the false pretense that you have any idea at all of what you are talking about.
