I'm going with "the guy" who came up with German Potato Salad followed by "the guy" who came up with Sauerbraten. I think they should have national holidays for them in Germany, whoever they are.

My grandfather.
Never had any formal education to speak of.
Left school quite young, to help support his 12 brothers and sisters.
But through his own wits and hard work.
Built one of the largest independant electrical warehouses in the country.
