Here is a very interesting article about how hard it is to cover and televise Obama speeches, new Cabinet member announcements, or other even informal events.

He uses one, he doesn't, so what? He's still a great speaker whether he's using it or not. Maybe some other certain presidents should've used one more regularly.
I just can not bear to watch him not use one.. His meeting with Gordon Brown was a perfect example of what happens to him without a teleprompter.. The overuse of the "Uh...." and "Um...." was rather irritating. I much prefer his teleprompted speeches.
Better to use a teleprompter and speak intelligently on a world stage than remove the teleprompter and gift us with comedic gold (and scorn from other countries). Darn that Obama for not being as funnily idiotic as Bush! Some people just aren't good at memorizing. I can memorize almost anything and give a speech on it. My sister is smart but she has a harder time with memorization. If she uses note cards and I rely on my memory, we'll probably run about even or she'll do slightly better than me (in terms of speeches). It's a matter of personal preference. And really, it's not ALL about the media when it comes to national issues. So what if they can't get the "perfect" shot?

He interjects w/"uh's" regardless, it's part of the way he speaks.

Teleprompter, Powerpoint, Notes. All keep a speaker on track and to the point. It's not debate, it's a speech.
With or without a teleprompter, it is still practiced, and not off the cuff.
With every word (and mistake) being examined by just about any one who can pull errors and mistakes and make them the story,
it's no wonder he uses it all the time.
I'm wondering why such a great orator and genius from Harvard has to drag that thing around with him EVERYWHERE he goes? I guess it keeps a couple folks employed at least right.
I honestly can't of a single politician from either party which doesn't use a teleprompter for big speeches. Bush, Reagan, & all certainly did and you didn't hear these whiners then but suddenly it is a Democrat instead of a Republican and they're trying to make hay of this non-issue?

Bush used one too, but he was unable to keep up with it.
He should have used one in Iraq too, because it might have blocked off all the shues that were thrown at him.
