Thanks for this domer. It's nice to hear all sides without the drunken mudslinging rants. Most indications I read from a variety of sources are that once the wheels start turning on their own enough (benchmarks on uptick) the soundest policy from that point foward is fiscal conservativism of modest temperament to stablize. Right now financial institutions are on training wheels, and hopefully with proper regulations restored to keep them inside the lines of sound business practice we'll be able to let them return to privatized mode fully.

Healthcare... I wish people in the trenches of each industry were writing 5,000 tell all books to be the guidance of pricing, policy, and eliminating adminstrative $$$$$. Privatized bureaucracy isn't kinder than gov't bureacracy, and it's appetite is far more voracious. Bean counters not beholden to politics or jet set are most needed. Quick! Somebody dig up harry truman.

The truly sad part of it all is that the Republicans have absolutely nothing to counter what is going on ... nothing!!!! And coming from this liberal, that's saying something. I hate this! Did you see that chart detailing the growing deficits through 2050 ... yea, I may be dead by then, but still ... come on Republicans!

Frontline is produced by PBS here in Boston. Not making any statements beyond that this is a left leaning group of people.

domergurl, think about it this way.

You know how some fat people complain because they don't take care of themselves for decades and think that by eating healthy for a year they can magically reverse all their problems? Then are shocked when it doesn't work out and they just get fatter?

We are that fat guy. We've been screwing up the economy for like 30 years, there is no silver bullet and it is going to take a long time and some hard work to get through this.

As a note, I won't be dead by then, but a majority of my working life is going to be spent working on the mess that past generations put us in. Thanks guys!!

This was a well balanced production. PBS may "lean left", but I feel this was done well, with pertinent questions asked to the administration. Definitely worth your time looking at it.

fopt I agree, because the presentation really does reflect what I see as centrist stuck between left and right. This doesn't lean. One thing I'd like to see is expansion of details in a timeline format, where each piece of key legislation voted on by whom, sponsored by which lobbyists etc. Investigative journalists and forensic accountants really have their work cut out for them on this one because there's so much sleight of hand going on in DC you're hard pressed to know who started what when and what the hell were they thinking.

I only know I want the whole truth, no matter how godawful horrible it is. Out with it.

The deficit is already ungodly high but will double in only 8 years? This is the law of exponential increase in action and we are right at that point where the numbers skyrocket at a ridiculiously fast pace. And I thought those math classes in college were totally worthless.

This country is totally screwed. This can't go on. It is a mathematical certanty that our little world is unsustainable and ultimately doomed.

I've got to get me a bunker, a confederate flag, a whole bunch of MREs and a couple dozen assault rifles...

I wonder when the media, both left and right will start reporting that the cause of the deficit and 99% of the problems in the USA are caused by the federal goverment.

assault rifles?

better you go with something that is not going to take permission from your local sheriff, 13 copies of your fingerprints, and a 6-12 month wait while f-troop approves your right to keep and bear assault rifles.
