111th CONGRESS
1st Session
H. R. 1444
(6) Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.

I found this under Duties: section #6

Obama and Democratic congress brings back the draft. Send your children to the Govenment.
Mr. MCDERMOTT (for himself, Mr. MORAN of Virginia, Mr. RUPPERSBERGER, Mr. KENNEDY, and Mr. VAN HOLLEN) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Education and Labor

I feel that some mandatory military service for all males would be good. I'm a fan of the system in South Korea and Greece. Military service teaches discipline which I think a lot of young people today are lacking.

That's fine, if you model it after something like Switzerland does. Militia training with mandatory target practice. Everyone keeps their gun afterwards. Crime is low as everyone is armed and knows how to use their weapon well, and no foreign country will occupy your country successfully.

Wow! I'm all for that. That would end the Neocon's efforts to use military force from the outset solve conflicts large and small.....Iraq would have never happened if these chickenhawk rich Republican's kids had been forced to serve.

If it was manitory draft for the US military that would be one thing. The military is a tried and true tradition, training and discipline. Volunteering in a campus- National police force, what is it, who is teaching, and where are they going to be used. Too much hush hush here -what do they know that we don't.

Drafts don't deter unnecessary wars. Just look to Vietnam and the cripping double digit inflation that followed it.

One could argue it ended sooner rather than later with the draft.

Maybe, but one would need proper citations to have their opinion entertained.

I've read that 2/3rds of those who served in Vietnam joined the military voluntarily and were not drafted.
