You're not so good with the demographic data, are you? Vermont is also very sparsely populated! Binghamton, NY, where today's shooting happened, though not a very large town, in fact has higher population than *any* town in Vermont, which ranks 49th in population among all the States.
Go by per capita crime to account for a lower population. It is lower. It proves restricting gun rights does nothing about crime.
Clinton pulled it of and Obama has a Mandate whereas Clinton never did so... Anything is possible. You think that the majority is not anti-gunners, says who?
A substantial portion of the democrats are not anti-gunners this go around. If they were they wouldn't of been elected, and if they go anti-gun they'll lose their seats. The anti-gunners are not the majority at all. This isn't the 90's, and people can more quickly and easily find information that disproves the lies the antis put out.
Can non-citizens acquire a CCW permit in New York state? This shooter's targets were persons taking tests to prepare to apply for U.S. citizenship. Almost none of them spoke English, according to news reports.
Depends. In VT they could have no problem. In NY it's quite difficult even for a native-born American to get a permit. Under federal law they must meet certain requirements (but carrying an antique is always possible).
I'm not going to be surprised to see some state, maybe even New York, start to float a psychological test requirement for certain gun permits.
Our freedoms are based on the assumption that persons have a certain degree of self-control. When that belief among the public, or the presumption itself, comes into question, don't be surprised to see public support for the freedom to carry lethal weapons for no realistic purpose coming under increasing criticism.
the interesting thing to note is that these shootings occurred in a state that openly pursues the limiting of it's citizens civil rights especially within the context of the second amendment. given that new york seats two of the most rabid anti freedom senators and has some of the most draconian anti-gun laws in effect there was no way for the law abiding citizen to have effectively defended him or herself from this deranged individual's attack. it is easy for me to speculate that had there been some armed citizen in that facility at that time the outcome of this event would have ended far differently and with far less loss of life. sadly it would still be a great tragedy for all involved but if there is a choice between tears in my family room or tears in the family room of some sociopath's home then let it be the latter.

Can't you foks give your 'left-wing' vs 'pro gun' obsessions a rest - and put political 'gotchas' aside??? Especially when so many lives were lost???
My daughters go to school at the University of Binghamton... I called them as soon as I heard about this to make sure they were ok - because one of them was at an internship not too far from where the shooting went down...
The person who went bezerk was recently let go at IBM - I'll bet that had something to do with what happened... It will take days to put a motive together... but I would guess that in his mind - immigrants were responsible for his job loss... and he was out for revenge.
mrbob, I'm glad your daughters are okay. ABC reports this morning it cannot be confirmed the shooter worked at IBM. However, his father, Henry, is employed at IBM and has not been laid off. I applaud the quick thinking receptionist who played dead, hid under her desk, and called 911. The police were there in two minutes.

The police were there within two minutes and according to what I've read about this...sat outside for around an hour trying to figure out what to do.
Hmmm, a guy who couldn't speak english and felt discriminated against because of it. An immigrant who lashed out at fellow immigrants, many of who were taking classes to learn english. Its hard to pigeon hole this guy. You fell bad for the people he killed, and that's about it. He lost his job, so is IBM to blame in part? Did he take a more qualified person's job to begin with based on his immigrant status and then not be able to hold onto it due to his inability to speak english? Is the USA's big push to mainstream immigrants into the workforce when they aren't yet ready to hold good paying jobs?
Asian men are becoming notorious for going psychotic. In 3 seperate shooting sprees they've taken over 50 lives in the last few years. That was something unheard of for a long time, outside of incidents in their own communities.
I can't understand why someone in the country for 28 years doesn't speak fluent English. It cannot be confirmed he worked at IBM, but his father does and has not been laid off.
