Can't you foks give your 'left-wing' vs 'pro gun' obsessions a rest - and put political 'gotchas' aside??? Especially when so many lives were lost???

My daughters go to school at the University of Binghamton... I called them as soon as I heard about this to make sure they were ok - because one of them was at an internship not too far from where the shooting went down...

The person who went bezerk was recently let go at IBM - I'll bet that had something to do with what happened... It will take days to put a motive together... but I would guess that in his mind - immigrants were responsible for his job loss... and he was out for revenge.

Define "mandate" in this context and what the requirement is to have one, please.

Thanks!

If you watched the news conference held by the Binghamton mayor, you heard the governor of New York decry the trend of recent mass shootings.

I'm not going to be surprised to see some state, maybe even New York, start to float a psychological test requirement for certain gun permits.

Our freedoms are based on the assumption that persons have a certain degree of self-control. When that belief among the public, or the presumption itself, comes into question, don't be surprised to see public support for the freedom to carry lethal weapons for no realistic purpose coming under increasing criticism.
Are you aware that the killer was an immigrant?

I thought NY has gun laws already.

It's getting to the point where, even though it's for sure a tragedy, it happens so much in the US that I'm just not blown away by stuff like this.
It wasn't that way growing up. It was rarer 25 to 30 years ago.

There's about 20,000 gun laws on the books in The US right now, according to the FBI. How about they enforce them instead of harassing law-abiding citizens. Criminals don't obey gun laws or any other law... that's why they're criminals!

No, it doesn't happen "so much". We're a nation of over 300,000,000 people. There will be a few bad apples in the bunch.

Not necessarily. The advent of 24 hour news channels and the Internet have had an enormous impact on the volume of incidents that get reported. 25 To 30 years ago, all the news had fit in one hour of reporting per night.
