Obama in Baghdad, tells troops Iraq must take over
By Jennifer Loven
Associated Press

BAGHDAD -- Cheered wildly by U.S. troops, President Barack Obama flew unannounced into Iraq on Tuesday and promptly declared it was time for Iraqis to "take responsibility for their country" after America's commitment of six years and thousands of lives. | Photo gallery: Obama's trip (http://www.pantagraph.com/shared-content/gallery/?galleryid=4&gallery_page=0&album_page=0&albumid=9 66&mediaid=23182 - broken link) | Video (http://videos.pantagraph.com/p/video?id=3700429 - broken link)

"You have given Iraq the opportunity to stand on its own as a democratic country," the president said as he made a brief inspection of a war he opposed as candidate and now vows to end as commander in chief. "That is an extraordinary achievement."

Duke, this is the third attempt to get this one going I have seen on this one forum today. Did you notice that the predominant voices in that video were female? I wonder why that was.

I watched this photo op this morning on Fox and was taken in by the number of females standing there in uniform and the way they were applauding so vigorously while their male counterparts were half-applauding out of respect for the CIC. I noticed that often the oorahs were predominantly those of the female group. It sounded so much like the campaign noises of last summer. It seems to me that most of the supporters are always female, for some reason.

I think that they only had about an hour to get any troops lined up for that photo op and used primarily volunteers. Since the females aren't allowed to take part in combat they must be the ones in the greatest numbers of those not ready to go at any time. I don't know but I bet they made up a much larger part of the listeners today than they do of the contingent in Iraq.

Surely you can prove me wrong on all points.

I wonder why the troops relate better to a guy who had to work his way to the top, and promises an end to the war they've been fighting, than they do to the grandson of a billionare who started the stupid war in the first place.
