Recently a man of Puerto Rican descent, who was an English teacher in Harlem called into a talk show. He explained that he genuinely cared for his students and wanted to help them better themselves. He was fed up with all of them pronouncing the word ask as axe. He told them the difference between the two words as well as the pronunciations. He was summarily called into the superintendents office and told to immediately decease from correcting the students mispronunciation of the word, as it was deemed offensive.
I think that this is an excellent example of soft racism from the left. First the school board did not feel that the students were capable of speaking proper English, (I mean why else would they order an English teacher not to teach his students proper English?), and secondly because of that fact they were keeping the kids as victims, because if one can not pronounce a simple three letter word, one most likely will not got far in life.
"A Puerto Rican mad called into talk show"..sounds like the start of a bar joke..This is total foolishness. Some conservative teachers/parents still teach their kids that Columbus discovered America or they omit or short sell slavery and/or segregation from their history lessons. I guess this would be reverse soft-racism from the right.
The teacher said that all of them were dems. Tell me, why would a conservative think that it is offensive to correct a child's mispronunciation? I don't understand what your arguing about.
To repeat, an English teacher, who, himself is a minority, was so fed up with his classroom full of black and hispanic kids pronouncing the word ask as axe, corrected them. He was called in my the superintendant, board and union. He was told to immediately desist due to the fact that he correcting them was offensive. They were all leftists, according to the teacher. This is the type of bigotry and racism of the left that I think Shizzles was referring to.
For far too long mant black kids have been ostracized and teased for "sounding white.", if the are well spoken and articulate. Bill Cosby has spoken in length about this issue, and surprise, surprise, he's been roundly condemned by leftist professors.

You made no attempt whatsoever to address what I wrote. I'll ask you very simply; is it wrong to correct poor minority kids that the word ask is pronounced ask, not axe?

It's in no way wrong to correct any childs grammar no matter the socio-economic or ethnic status but the issue isn't liberal or conservative or minority or majority. Conservatives and liberals, minorities and the majority are all wrong when "protecting" their children from the truth..Trying to make this a partisan issue is what is wrong with this thread.

Never said I wasn't but this is not a political topic..You tried unsuccessfully to twist it into one. The second of my 2 statements you quoted was an example of why this was not political. Just let it go.
This is my definition for soft and hard bigotry: A young black man new in town goes up to two white people and ask “where can a guy like me find a place to hang around?” the liberal directs him to a Barbeque joint and pool hall, the conservative points to a tree in front of the courthouse.
Please explain in detail these double standards and victim groups. You keep throwing stuff out there without substantiating it. Surely the wingnuts will readily agree with anything that cast liberals in a negative light but I would like to know what you're actually talking about.
Please explain in detail why you need to clog up things because you only get the black and white. Tee hee.
Oh, and I am very sure that you would like to know what "they" are "actually" "talking" about.

I didn't make it a partisan issue; the school officials, all of whom were leftists did. I do appreciate your answer though.
