From WaPo, no less. Wonder why that rag even let this one post?

The three quick shots off the fantail of the USS Bainbridge that terminated the piracy incident in the Indian Ocean early Sunday night made a number of points for various pointy-headed political pundits to chew on, cudlike, for a few weeks. But one they'll probably miss is the following: The three shots make clear to a wider public what has been clear to people who pay attention to such things -- we are in the golden age of the sniper.

I'm not a 'Rambo wannabe' but high performance ballistics do interest me. The chemistry, math and physics behind it all are fascinating. The mechanics of the weapon, the physical discipline, I suppose it is catnip for a shooting enthusiast. I own three such weapons. capable of this type of shooting, and it's thought provoking setting up for those 500 yard plus shots. It's a science, not a mindless ooga booga Rambo with an M-60 thing. Lol, insult all you want catto. The simple minded always insult what they can't understand or comprehend in a vain attempt to impress others of their intelligence.

And none of those were the subject of the article.

500 hundred is mildly thought provoking, 1,000 is interesting, 1,500 to 2,000 now that gets my interest.

I think of it more as a craft...

Vain attempt... I doubt it. As for understanding... you know what they say about Ass-U-ME'ing.

But like NVplumber, I do try to learn the details of what interests me. I read both articles and while they didn't go into this level of detail, I have read enough to know some of the different technologies that are available to the new sniper rifle.

As a person who is still working on a consistent grouping at 100 yards with their new rifle, any distance is interesting.

The SR-25 mentioned in the article. My guess is they were using the MK-11 version.
Knight's Armament SR-25, Stoner Rifle 25, 308 Caliber, SASS I've thought about purchasing a similar rifle from Rock River Arms or just building one like I am with my 6.8 AR.
