Mean, narrow minded, or otherwise, let's face it: we know our whole society is in trouble when a mindless television show like "American Idol" is taken seriously at any level.
If you would bother to watch the show, you would realize it is extremely entertaining.
Every year, they find a new group of the most talented unknown singers in the country, and give them a chance at stardom.
This season's Adam Lambert is possibly the most talented person ever to appear on the show.
Check out his studio version of "Whole Lotta Love"

Why is talent "mindless", as you put it? These people are amazing singers, year in and year out.
I've listened to this at least 50 times. It's the video of Adam singing Mad World. I'm surprised it hasn't been removed, but they also have the Ring of Fire performance, which I loved.

I said "true" to the mindless comment, because I thought Fred was talking about the silly rehearsals and all the hype, but I watch the show every week once the top 12 (this year it was the top 13) are chosen.

That's what I wanted to know. Unless there is open dialog about this on the stage during the show, it isn't news. If it does end up on the show, you can bet it won't be on in my household ever again. This is a private matter involving the private life of one of the contestants on the show. It needs to be kept private, so I can't understand why the OP, or anyone in the media, would bother to bring it up.

"A private matter."
If he were straight and brought his girlfriend up on stage with him at the end of the show, I highly doubt you'd have a problem with that, but if he brings a boyfriend up on stage with him, then suddenly it's homosexual panic time.
I think Adam may be transsexual. We may see him transition at some point in the future. I feel the same way about his possible gender identity issue as I do about his possible sexual orientation issue. Its interesting is all. Beyond that it does not matter.
god do you know how many times they have had girls play Peter Pan?
