Those who claim that the smoking bans don't harm businesses are wrong. They know it, but they don't care because they think they know what's in your best interest.
Finally, a state government (the state I call home, incidentally) is going against political correctness and giving back to some business owners their right to operate their business as they see fit.
Quote:
The Nevada Clean Indoor Air Act, which took effect in 2007, bars smoking in any indoor space where minors may be present and where food is served. The Senate voted 16-5 Friday to advance a measure that would soften the statewide smoking ban.
...
"Our members' gaming revenues are off 20 to 30 percent since the ban, and that's before the recession."
Someone recently said in another thread here that business owners were better off with the bans, and that they just had to be forced to ban smoking in their establishments to realize it. Obviously, that's not correct...
Kudos to Nevada for realizing what folks with any common sense knew all along, and for restoring property rights to business owners.
I don't have a problem w/smoking bans in restaurants, it's the bars that I have a problem with, it should be decided on the bar owner. And where are minors going to be other than a restaurant w/their parents? Although, the other day walking down the street, I did hear a women say to someone "is there a bar around here that allows kids?"
The proposed changes would only apply to "stand-alone bars that sell food and have" a gambling license.
So, this mostly caters to folks with at least two addictions: smoking, gambling, and/or drinking.
Yep...I agree that drinking, smoking and gambling all seem to go together. I guess if people want to waste their lungs, liver and bank accounts, far be it for me to stop them.

That ought to bring out the anti-smoking nazis. This will drive them crazy. Kudos to the state of Nevada for having the guts to go against the PC crap.
Good. Smoking bans are a product of an intrusive government. If a restaurant or bar allows smoking and you don't like it, then don't patronize it. Find a new one.
Pretty simple.
