Why is it that so many right wingers say that sexual orientation is a choice and that religion is innate.

According to them Barack Obama chose to be heterosexual, but was born and will always be Muslim.

Does that seem illogical to anyone else?

Completely and utterly.

Personally (and I am prepared to get flack for this) but I believe Obama to be an atheist. But a straight one

I take Obama at his word that he's a Christian.

Defies my personal experience & I've met many people in my life to make that observation. Within my own family... my grandmother was born into methodist/ lutheran but when she came of age made a conscious choice to switch to quaker. She was always hetero, but religion requires you to examine and embrace it fully by living it out. Being baptized as an infant isn't the same as practicing the faith.

Whatever Obama is or isn't, the only thing that counts in my book is that he's truthful.

Doesn't make sense to me, I don't remember deciding to be straight.

IDK, but I don't really care much either. I wouldn't be surprised if he were atheist, using the "God" thing to get support all these years in politics/community outreach. Not that I blame him. Many polls list Atheists as "the number one threat" to Americans, so imagine how hard it would be to get elected if you weren't Christian. :-/

Don't be surprised if most american presidents were athiest. They know how foolish and zombie-ish the american electorate is

I don't recall choosing my sexuality so I can't take credit for it.

Blasphemer! Freedom of religion is NOT freedom FROM religion. Get in that church or we'll arrest you.

Politicians that didn't actively align themselves with religious orgs never made it past the primary. Biden was the only one I saw putting his neck out early on in defense of separation of church and state.
