OBAMA is making it 45% of the economy this year.

He's massively increasing the federal government. If interest rates go up we'll see this figure go to 52% of economy.

And this is only his first year!!
The spending is a result of the mess we've created over the last three decades. The spending is designed to ward off a deep depression. Whether it will work remains to be seen, but it has nothing to do with socialism. I wish you sore losers would stop throwing terms around, willy-nilly, whose only purpose it seems, is to rile people up.

Government spending was much, much greater during the Great Depression, and here we are, still and always a capitalistic society.

I can't repeat it enough: We are still and always have been a capitalistic society. We will always be a capitalistic society.

Wouldn't Mexico be closer to a pure free market?

I doubt it.

The United States is and will always be a capitalist mixed economy. Crying socialism over and over changes nothing.

Stop pulling numbers out of your behind.

Socialism is not determined by the amount of government spending. It's determined by who owns the means of production. I'm surprised they didn't tell you that at your "prestigious university." LMAO.

Sure you did, since you seem so capable of showing your understanding of socialism.

1932 21.19
1933 22.38
1934 19.4
1935 20.17
1936 20
1937 18.74
1938 20.53
1939 20.66

That is precisely why I don't engage in these conversations. We could have an entire forum to discuss the myriad of socialist and social democratic theories that have developed over the last century and a half. These semi-literate discussion serve little purpose, its sort of like trying to discuss atomic energy with folks who have just discovered fire.
