Greg Sargent notes that despite the media's reluctance to describe it as such, a new poll out today by the New York Times and CBS News found that 71 percent of Americans consider waterboarding to be "a form of torture":
Think Progress » Poll: 71 percent believe that waterboarding is torture.

The 29% who believe is not torture, nicely mirrors the percentage of the electorate who identify themselves as Republicans, according to the recent Pew Research poll.

They need to poll NYC Firefighters and the victims of 9/11. I bet they would get much different answers.

Not completely. I know some people who lost family in 9/11, and they're against all forms of torture.

No surprise. Some people want revenge.
Torture is as old as human civilization. We have all kinds of people in this world. Some people get their kicks by inflicting pain on others. I guess hearing screams of agony must be like music to their ears.
