In their latest poll, positive views of Bush have dropped to just 26 percent. In roughly the same time period, positive views of former Vice President Cheney dropped from 21 percent to 18 percent.
Some people needed a "heckuva" lot of time to come to their senses - 26% still need more time!! The more that the realization of the disaster they wrought on the nation the more those numbers will drop... even for those 26%.
I would imagine it has to do with the torture memos.
Of course, Nixon was also thoroughly hated by the end of the Watergate scandal, yet in retrospect he was uplifted in the rankings. It takes a good 20 years for the emotional impact of a president to fade, and for their actual contributions to be realized. We considered Clinton to be a good president, but in retrospect we learned that he is largely responsible for job outsourcing and at least partly responsible for the financial crisis.
In the same respect that Nixon later received high marks for his international policies, Bush will probably be uplifted for taking the initiative against terrorism. At this point in time, most people still go on emotion, but history will have the final say, it always does.

Yes, there are still some hardcore imbeciles who view the village idiot favorably and might've voted for him a third time if he were able to run. I'm not surprised though that 26% feel this way. 61 million thought he deserved to be re-elected.

Nixon was absolutely correct in opening relations with China and reversing our policy of thinking we could continue to ignore such a large force.
I had nothing to fear with Bush. The war broke down a great number of terrorist cells. With Obama I can't tell what he is going to do next. I don't like the way he caves in to the liberal left. He is just a puppet with string attached to his body. I wonder what liberal group is going to get to play with him next.
