Michelle Obama serves food to D.C. poor and homeless, but... | Top of the Ticket | Los Angeles Times.

First Lady Michelle Obama showed up Thursday as a surprise and welcome volunteer at Miriam's Kitchen, a soup kitchen for homeless poor people not far from the White House.

She brought with her some food donated by White House staff.
---------------------------------------------------------
Both of these news photos were widely distributed across the country and even around the world.

It doesn't detract from the first lady's generous gesture or the real needs she seeks to highlight to ask two bothersome journalistic questions about these news photos:

If this unidentified meal recipient is too poor to buy his own food, how does he afford a cellphone?

And if he is homeless, where do they send the cellphone bills?

Sounds like someone is out of touch. If you have a pay as you go cell phone, you don't get a bill. You buy a voucher, sctratch the number out and call a toll free #....cell phone is in credit. How he got cell phone? could have stolen it or bought it when he had money.

taxes.

Could it ever occur to you in your rabid hatred of the poor (like your Jesus?) that this man needs a cell phone if he is to get any job whatsoever? To keep in contact with his family? That maybe he needs food to look for work? That maybe it's none of your nasty damn business?

At first I was going to suggest that I know some agencies who serve the homeless provide cell phones for work purposes (or trying to obtain work) that cost $1.00 a month. HOWEVER, I noted in the picture this supposedly homeless guy is taking a picture of the smiling Michele. The cells provided for $1.00 a month do NOT take pictures. Soooooooooooo again, this is another "staged" event; you know like the one the supposedly homeless lady living in her car was in the front row where Obama was speaking and a congresswoman offered her use of her home. Yeah right...so phoney, Gawd they must think the American people are stupid!

Yes. I see them all the time at 7/11.

I also know a lot of people who keep a cell as their primary means of communications rather than a land line because its cheaper. There are also plenty of people who are working AND homeless.

I think it's great that Michelle popped in like that and volunteered.

That's really sweet of Michelle for helping out and using it as a photo op.

I'm sure the unidentified meal recipient with the cell phone saw the Obama supporter on television that said Obama would buy her gas and make her house payments...and thinks Obama will pay for his cell phone bill.
