Ronald Reagan, 1988:

Quote:
The United States participated actively and effectively in the negotiation of the Convention. It marks a significant step in the development during this century of international measures against torture and other inhuman treatment or punishment. [MOD CUT/copyright violation]
Charles Krauthammer, 2009:

Quote:
... Some people, however, believe you never torture. Ever. They are akin to conscientious objectors who will never fight in any war under any circumstances, and for whom we correctly show respect by exempting them from war duty.[MOD CUT/copyright violation]
So Charles Krauthammer is calling Ronald Reagan a lefty pacifist who shouldn't have been trusted to safeguard America. What about it, torture defenders? Was Reagan too soft for you?

I miss Ronnie. People imitating broadcasters imitating political analysts are the pits.

Are you drunk? Your posts are not normally this hard to read.

Please try again and make it clear who you're talking about. To me, your second sentence refers to the same person.

Nobody here willing to defend Ronald Reagan? The one who said that torture is wrong in all cases?

You do realize that politicians do some things publicly and other things secretly yet still in an official government capacity. It's like Pelosi not giving two sh%^$ about torture following 9/11. Only when she could use it as a political tool did she suddenly become concerned with how other people are treated.

And let's not forget that President Reagan had absolutely no problem dropping bombs on Qhadaffi and his family among other things. Again, a public face vice what one does secretly with the government and its resources.

I think it's torture to have a president go on the tonight show.

Sorry, but not everyone is stupid enough to fall for your false equivalence: that between Democratic leaders who were lied to (they were only told that aggressive interrogation had been authorized by the lawyers, not that it had already taken place) in top-secret briefings that they couldn't even reveal to their staff, and the people who actually committed torture and then retroactively tried to find legal cover so that they wouldn't have to face legal consequences.

Secondly, America has always committed wrongs. That is true. But it is unusual that our leaders have committed wrongs, admitted to doing so, and then tried to make those wrongful activities our national policy.

In other words you will blindly accept what someone tells you as long as it makes democrats look good or innocent?
