you just can't trust ANYTHING that newsmax says. It is the ultimate conservative rag. Even the headline sounded very slanted. spector is not a defector. he is a smart Senator who saw the light.
If it was pre-arranged then some sloppy reporting is occuring. If it was not- I think this is notice for him to stay in line and quit with the comments like the Norm Coleman ones from the other day. The wording had something to the effect of 'this issue can be revisited later' which would imply him regaining some or all seniority if he proves to be an actual Dem instead of simply swithcing parties to save his arse.
I am not sure Ridge will make it out of an R primary. He is pro-choice and Hillary attracted a large number of the moderate Rs to switch parties in 2008. Oddly I actually know someone who once ran statewide as an R who did just that. Also the R numbers have declined overall. It would be a riot if both Specter and Ridge got the boot in primaries since primary voters tend to be more in line with the party base and less moderate. Specter barely squeaked it out in 2004.
It wasn't Hillary that caused the change in party registration.
nice. i think saggie owes the newsmax folks an apology
The quote you published doesn't contradict the resolution passed today. It says that if he wins re-election as a Dem in 2010, he will have all his seniority returned to him.
Unless you've got something better, you owe Sag an apology.
"Specter said last week he and Reid had agreed he would be treated for seniority purposes as though he had been elected as a Democrat when he first came to the Senate in 1980. The issue has important ramifications because chairmanships, which come with money to hire large staffs, can be at stake."
"On Tuesday night, hours after the Democrats' weekly luncheon, the Senate passed a resolution that made Specter the most junior Democrat on the committees on which he serves."

How many posts are we up to on this story now? Six? It seems like an awful lot for what was a minor deal to begin with.
More attempts at hollow self-reassurance by the incredible shrinking right-wing. The resolution Democrats passed on Tuesday was co-written and agreed to in advance by Sen. Specter (D-PA)...
