I am always hearing about how terrible the Taliban are, but from a historical perspective, they are no different than many other movements of ideological people who fought for what they feel is right. History is full of groups that are respected today but were considered terrible in their day. For example the Vikings.

It seems like the Taliban disciplines are passionate in their beliefs and willing to fight to the death for them. I have to give them credit for their passion and drive. Though their philosophy is terrible. Do you agree?

No.....and who admires the Vikings? Raping and pillaging doesn't ring a bell to you?

If Vikings are now viewed more as a mascot at a football game rather then the menace they once were has more to do with the one thousand + years that seperate them and us.

Will you ever root for the Tennessee Taliban? Probably not. But perhaps your great-great-great-great-great etc,etc... grandchildren might.

Passion??? It's called brain washed, they are all forced into a belief at a young age.

Finally wellness we agree. At a young age they are told when they go to heaven they will be given a bunch of virgins;19 I think(sorry can't remember the specific number). This is for serving in the almighty's name. This is dedication based on a lie.

Are they naturally turned on by virgins, or do they become covetous pedophiles when first promised the virgins?

Taliban means "students" in Pashtun language.

They are the descendants of people who have stood in resilience against the British, Russians and whoever who tried messing with them.

The only successful person here was Alexander the Great and he was the last. Even Alex himself, he made a hasty diagonal run through the Hindu Kush into India. He followed the same strategy on the way back to Babylon. He simply cut through the land mass without any long term strategy.

Technically, noone has ever completely conquered this land

The OP has a point. They're not gonna go away. They'll fight to the death and keep regenerating.

And they're not nasty, at least not when we used to send them weapons and negotiate pipeline deals. (Actually, we still supply them, the money just has to go through Pakistani and official Afghan government hands first).
