I love how they moderate this forum. They'll give you plenty of rope to hang yourself with, while having oodles of tolerance. There is not much you can't say or talk about in this forum. It is a relief, and I'm amazed how they keep it somewhat civil.
I have an idea, forger your original idea! Controversy breeds ideas and ideas beget intelligence. Any chance that you're a Barama socialist? Socialism abhors controversy as people may actually begin to think that they're getting screwed by the state! Capitalism promotes the free flow of ideas, innovations and wealth. I'm firmly on the side of the capitalists.
I am new here but from what I have read here so far this discussion board is just fine. A little back and forth, so to speak, is not bad and sometimes can liven up a discussion. Just so long and it does not get out of hand, which I assume the mods here will deal with, I have no problem with it. I would only ask the posters here to remember two things when the discussions get a little hot, try to stay on the subject at hand as best you can and never forget that someone that disagrees with you on one subject may be one of your supporters on another. The board I came from makes this site look like a walk in the park when it comes to getting nasty, ask Finn or Austin. I come here to hear and discuss the issues of the day, sometimes we even learn something if we are willing to put down our partisan hats and listen for a second, no one has all the answers and no one is wrong all of the time.

Very little chance of it happening in here. However, I echo the posters before me - Great Debates is relatively civil, and is heavily moderated to keep it that way.
We could confiscate everyone's keyboard...that might do it !!
Us conservatives, capitalists and muckrakers get to keep our keyboards! Baramarites, socialists and communists get to give up their keyboards and watch MSLSD (The all Barama news channel!) and CNN (Communist News Network) all day every day without conservative/capitalist opinions and/or comments.

Conservatives think CNN is a liberal or, as the above comment denotes, a communist network, but many liberals complain that is it too right-wing (Lou Dobbs, for instance). That's actually been my impression of CNN on the rare occasions I watch it.
Who, then, is watching CNN?
(By the way, Hazzard's post isn't very funny, but I know he thinks it is, so let's not spoil his fun.)
